sofia latif

SOFIA LATIF is award-winning vegan and cruelty free skincare and wellbeing, giving women the confidence to show off their skin, whilst developing a better relationship with it.

Our skin changes with age, and our relationship with our skin also changes. Plant oils have been shown to strengthen skin and give it the resilience it needs to move and stretch with ease, whilst bouncing back with comfort.

Taking time to slow down and care for our skin, viewing it through gentle and kind eyes, we build a stronger and healthier relationship with our skin. With this holistic approach to skincare and wellbeing, we encourage using the time at the end of each day to reconnect mind to senses and show love to our skin and ourselves – our mini-meditation.

I’ve developed a range of skin elixirs which work, having used them on myself for over 15 years. Luxuriate in vegan skincare that is effective, cruelty free, and make it the last step in your skincare routine every night. Made with 100% pure plant oils, and nothing else; all selected for their nourishing, regenerating, and anti-inflammatory powers. Made in small batches in London.

Get ready to show off your skin and hair with confidence.

My mission is to give women the confidence to show off their skin and hair as it changes with age, using natural and vegan products made from 100% pure plant oils. It is important to me that all women feel like they are being heard, understood and represented, which is why Sofia Latif™ is designed for women of all skin tones.

In my late 20s my skin became hypersensitive and I developed stress eczema during a very challenging period of my life – my father was terminally ill and the stress was showing on my skin. Nothing helped to ease the sensitivity, and prescribed medication was not the solution for me – I didn’t want to compromise the strength of my skin by using hydrocortisone. There were no products on the market which seemed to help alleviate the sensitivity, or stop my skin from relapsing and developing eczema.

That is when I started to use oils again, inspired by my Indian heritage. My Mum had used sweet almond oil on my skin as a child, and that is the first oil I used to calm my skin from the eczema. Pai’s rosehip oil was also another saviour at that time. Once I had rediscovered oils and started to see my skin become healthier and healthier, I started to research and find oils which could help me tackle issues specific to South Asian/Indian skin, which wasn’t being catered for in the 90s or even now … scarring, patchy skin tone, hyperpigmentation, and sensitivity which rules out the use of retinol or acids or vitamin C. I was also on the hunt for that elusive foundation which would make my skin look like my skin, but better. Unfortunately, nothing matched or worked, so instead I worked to make my own skin look better. I tested and trialled all the blends on myself over the course of 15 years, until I was happy with the results, and my skincare line – Sofia Latif™ – was born. A brand which celebrates every skin colour, skin tone, and hair type, so that no one feels left out of the conversation.

We source our ingredients from a UK manufacturer, who works closely with farmers to ensure ingredients are farmed ethically and with environmental responsibility. They support payment of a living wage, safe and healthy working conditions, and fair working hours. They will not work with farmers who utilise child labour.

We are certified as having Zero Plastics Inside by beat the microbead, an initiative run by Plastic Soup Foundation, designed to help customers become more informed about the products they use and reassured that a product is guaranteed 100% free of microplastic ingredients. We are proud to be part of a movement to minimise plastics that end up in the ecosystem. We still have more to do as we are working on finding a suitable replacement for the lids/pumps on our products. Our return for recycling service, available to our website customers, goes some way to address this for now.

Our Organic oils are Soil Association accredited. It is our ambition to be accredited as a brand by the Soil Association, Vegan Society, and Leaping Bunny in 2020.

We believe you want to know exactly what is in the product you are using, so we list our ingredients on the bottle and on the website, so that you can make an informed choice. Only you will know if an allergen from an essential oil is going to affect your skin. There are no GMO oils, palm oil, mineral oils, sulphates, phthalates, paraben, silicones, or perfume contained in the blends. We are transparent about our ingredients, and have also listed any allergens which are naturally occurring in the essential oils.

We don’t test on animals, and do not use suppliers who test on animals. We have been testing the oils on ourselves, as well as friends and family who have wanted to be a part of this journey. We believe in being 100% cruelty free and will always remain cruelty free.

Our packaging is recyclable – the bottles are made of glass, the box they come in is made of cardboard, the postage envelopes are made of recycled material, and our accompanying stationery is printed on recycled paper. Even the packing peanuts are starch based, and therefore biodegradable, and the packing tape is made of paper with a non-toxic solvent so that it is recyclable. Every endeavour is made to be as responsible and sustainable as possible, however, the pipette tops are made of plastic. We are working to find alternatives to this :). We offer a return for recycling service, details of which we can send to you if you email us at We offer 25% OFF your next purchase for using this service.

It feels good to do good, so linking each purchase with a 5% charitable donation means you are making a difference to someone’s life. But it’s a charitable donation with a purpose – by working with Lendwithcare (who provides micro-loans to small business owners in low income countries), we are empowering women who want to work their own way out of poverty through their small business. You can see exactly who we have supported here, and read their stories and the impact we are having on their lives.

What motivated you to create your brand?

Born from a need to manage my own stress eczema in my late 20s which resulted in me losing a lot of confidence, I was inspired by my Indian heritage and harnessed the power of oils and botanicals to heal my skin. My journey has led me to create an award-winning range of vegan elixirs made from 100% pure nut, seed, and flower oils, designed to make skin and hair the best it can be at any age. I founded my business in my mid-40s having spent a career in marketing, including sustainability communications for brands delivering on purpose beyond profit. Inspired by this and my time in Uganda where I worked for an NGO, I fused my passion, creativity, and experience to launch an inclusive and purpose-driven beauty brand aimed at women who are usually left out of the beauty conversation.

I want to be the antidote to the anti-ageing mantra that is being pushed at women over the age of 40 by our industry.

What are your wellbeing must haves?

Prioritising sleep is important for my wellbeing, and will have a huge impact on how balanced I feel day-to-day. Alongside this is my daily morning meditation and daily evening skincare routine which is my mini-meditation to calm and soothe mind and skin ready for sleep, both of which help me bookmark the day with some self-care.

What ingredient do you really love using in your products and why?

There are two ingredients I love using in my products, and these make an appearance in my Face Oil, Eye Oil, and also Body Oil – rosehip fruit oil and marula seed oil. Rosehip fruit oil is one of the few oils which has been clinically proven to increase skin moisture, elasticity, and fade scars. It is anti-inflammatory with a high vitamin A content (Trans-retinoic acid – a natural retinol), which assists with cell regeneration and increases levels of collagen and elastin, helping scars to fade. The high linoleic and linolenic acid content makes the oil thinner, yet still able to nourish and protect. I love it because sensitive and dry skins are soothed by this oil. Marula seed oil has been dubbed the ‘miracle oil’ and works hard to keep skin looking and feeling youthful. It is high in anti-oxidants to protect against damaging free radicals, and oleic acid to seal in moisture. Vitamins C and E work together to improve skin tone, firmness, and elasticity, whilst softening the appearance of fine lines. Rosehip oil was one of the first oils I started using in my blends when trying to heal the stress eczema on my face over 15 years ago and I have remained loyal to it.
